After sustaining fire damage, this historic Wicker Park two-flat was gutted and completely transformed into an atypical but nonetheless handsome single family home. Overseen by Chicago architecture firm fcStudio, the extensive renovation preserved and restored the home’s existing masonry facade while also constructing a two-story addition at the rear of the property. The extra space allowed the home to add an all-new kitchen, additional bedrooms, and enough headroom for an overhanging basement climbing wall.
The updated layout provides large communal family spaces. In addition to re-incorporating a large amount original wood damaged in the fire, the renovation also installed a green geothermal HVAC system. A rear yard, playful splashes of color, and whimsical features such as a chalkboard wall make this the perfect family-friendly Wicker Park residence. The five-bedroom home was featured in Chicago Magzaine’s Home & Garden section in 2010 and hit the market this week seeking $1,600,000.
